Are you lying to me?

Ok this weekend was all kinds of exciting.  Saturday I got 2 major purchases: my new fancy camera and my Courtney Bib from Bauble Bar!! Opening my mailbox had never been this fun.  I played with my camera on Saturday while my new bauble sat in it's box ready for styling on Sunday.

Kentucky game on Sunday was EPIC and I was bouncing off the walls so it was time to bring my shiny beauty out of it's box and figure out what I was going to wear on Monday to properly show it off.  I was holding up my pink and white stripped shirt, went to lift the necklace when the back snapped off.

After holding it in two pieces in complete shock and dismay (I'm not being dramatic at all) I ran downstairs and dumped my trash all over my kitchen to pull out the box and receipt.  I threw everything out because there was no way I would ever need to return it, even cut off the tag.  I full on panicked and emailed Bauble Bar to see if there is anything I can do.  The I had to go plan my outfit without my necklace, and it just didn't feel the same.

On the plus side, I have my fancy camera and I'm ready for this whole blog thing to become what I want it to be.  Giving it a shot because I need something more in my life than my closet, my wine and my work.

Mama Mia

The woman in the middle in this picture is the center of my world, and that's my mommy.  I am one of those extremely blessed people in the world who got to grow up with the best example of a woman in her life.  My mom is my rock, my hero and my idol.  This lovely lady does have faults though and one of them is failing to tell my sister (in the red) and I (in the green) whenever she is having any kind of medical procedure done.

Example: I called her on a Saturday afternoon a few years ago asking what she was doing and she says "Oh I'm in the ER".  I lost my mind.  Another example is when I was laying on the couch watching TV my senior year of college and she came in wearing a shoulder sling.

Now this is unusual because the whole time my Dad was sick she was completely honest and upfront about every single thing going on with my him, but now she wants to protect us since she thinks she's all we have left.  This week she had surgery on her foot and to her credit she told my sister and I a week ago, a week is an improvement.

Her lovely manfriend is watching over her but my sister and I ran over yesterday after work to check on her and she got a little emotional.  We're her babies and she gets scared every time she gets put under that she'll leave us.

I ensured her before the surgery no matter what happens she taught us the best way to get through life as an independent woman by example.  She showed us how to love completely by example and she showed us how to be the mother people dream of by example.

I'm going over to her house on Friday after work for a slumber party, and by slumber party I mean she'll be high on pain killers and I'll be drinking and screaming at the Kentucky game.

You've got mail......

So I had this feeling Saturday that I needed to check my mail and TA DAAAAAAA, the Kendra Scott necklace I ordered with my tax return, which was on back order, FINALLY arrived.  It was love at first sight.

I've been searching for a neutral yet statement necklace for a while now.  I got inspiration from Tori Gonzalez on Courtney Loves Dallas with her House of Harlow star necklace.

I love that but this one seems more me, and I have loved Kendra Scott for years now.  Her pieces are just effortless but I never get more compliments than when I'm rockin something of hers.

So when this little lady came I immediately ran to my closets (yep when you live alone you have closets plural) and started planning outfits, and if you follow me on Instagram you got a couple pictures of me with the new love of my life.  It was a pretty exciting weekend because of her.

Book club

Does anyone have any books they are recommending?  I need to stop reading 99 cent romance novels from Amazon before my head explodes.

Side note: have y'all seen the hot dudes on the CW lately?

See I really need to stop reading 99 cent romance books on Amazon........

Blessings

My life the last week was hell, both personally and professionally.  I feel like I'm failing in most aspects of my life right now, like barely keeping my head above water most of the time.  It's not a great feeling, I'm an accomplished person and I have a lot of pride for what I've done with my life, so struggling does not come naturally to me.  I am trying to go into this week with a clear mind and to be my best self.  It's like that saying "somethings gotta give", well I hope that something hurries the eff up.......

In lighter news, I went to church Saturday, alone.  Yep you read that right.  God and I haven't exactly been on friendly terms the last 10 years, but I thought it was about time we had an LC and Heidi type reunion (the one on LC's bday on the boat when they hug and cry, not the one in the apartment when LC wants to forgive and forget Heidi).  It felt good, it felt like a piece of me I've shut off for the last 10 years came back and I'll just follow that path and see where it leads me.

And today begins another round of Emily's 21 Day Superhero Challenge which means no booze, no sugar no carbs, and exhausting hashtaging IG pictures for the next 21 days.  Yep, it's not called a challenge for nothing.

But you look fab

I am currently battling a stomach bug that has plagued our office for the past couple of weeks and the only reason I am going to work today is because the outfit I have planned is super cute.  I have priorities my loves.

The Sun Will Come Out......

TOMORROW!!!! And I'm not an Annie fan, but something magical happened the last couple of days, the sun appeared.  We had a roughhhhh winter over here on the East Coast and it's been taking a toll on my mood for the last 2-3 months.  I've been feeling blah but the little bit of sunlight and above freezing tempertaures we got over the weekend inspired me again.  I am ready for warmer weather, open windows and spring fashion!!!!!

Of course I had to throw in some of my favorite lady Cheryl Cole.  I am FEELING this white moment, it's such a clean look for any outfit.   You can use it so many different ways but the what you have to focus on with white is fit, fit is essential.   I am hunting for some awesome white skinny jeans to rock all spring.

Another one of my "sun is shining" projects is my office into closet transformation I talked about a while ago. Finally got some of it moving this past weekend, once I take some better photos I will share but I put together a clothes rack I bought from Target all by myself!!!

TGIF

Some times you get to the end of a week and you just sigh.  It's finally over.  You can see the finish line.  You can sleep until 11 AM Saturday if (when) you want to.

This week I got a lot done, I see light at the end of the tunnel, and I have goals that I'm reaching for again.  It feels good, it feels like there's something pushing me again, and that something includes the Philadelphia half marathon in September.

I went to church this week, I don't do church because me and the Catholic church had some creative differences when my dad died.  I went, I got through it without crying or having some kind of flame shooting out of my eyes in the direction of the pulpit, there's something to that.

So I'm happy this week is over, it gave me a renewal I was looking for.  I can't wait to have the time off to get ready for whatever next week brings

Oh and there will be wine....

Alright, alright, alright

Oscar weekend is something I always love.  I love the fashion (le duh), I love the dates, I love the speeches.  I love movies and I love seeing some of my favorite actors/actresses in the same room getting the award of their lives.

Now the fashion, it's EVERYTHING at the Oscars and it was no different this year.

1. Lupita Nyong'o in Prada-This lovely lady has shut it down at every event she's attended this awards season and this was no different.  This blue against her skin is just pure heaven.  I love the headband and the cuff earrings, she looks times and magnificent.  I love the way the plunging neckline still looks floaty and ethereal on her.

2. Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace & Zuhair Murad-I mean is she KIDDING me?! You want to see a movie star? THIS is a MOVIE STAR! And yes I'm using yelling capital letters.  This is what Beyonce was singing about in "Flawless", she woke up like dis.  And not only did she rock the red carpet once, but she did it again at the Vanity Fair party in that Zuhair Murad stunner.  I'm a sucker for a nude with color overlay on it and that look is everything to me.

3. Julia Roberts in Givenchy- There's a reason she's America's Sweetheart, she can rock lace like no other.  Lace is one of my favorites but in evening wear it is very difficult to make lace, and especially black lace, not look like an old lady in mourning.  I love the shape of this dress with the peplum moment and the nude lace at the chest.  Her hair being pulled back to reveal the lace details at the arms and just the beautiful drop earring was genius.  I love her as a redhead but with this black lace the blonde is just stunning.

4. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior & Tom Ford- My love for her knows no bounds honestly, but this awards season has been a little iffy with fashion for her compared to the knock-outs she had last year.  This red Dior is everything I love about the brand, timeless and flawless.  She doesn't even look like a real person in the first dress, she looks like a straight up Barbie doll.  There are a lot of reds you can go with, but this red against her skin is the absolutely perfect red, and the make-up with the backwards necklace again is ridiculous.  I love her hair being slicked back to let the dress shine.  The second dress is the Tom Ford she wore to Vanity Fair and it is the sexiest thing I've seen in a while.  You can't see it in this picture but the side panels are completely sheer and homegirl rocks it out.

Worst

1. Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab- I'm an Angie fashion fan, homegirl can rock a black dress like no other and I like that in a woman.  This dress for me looks like she just didn't really care.  For me, cut off the sleeves and lower the neckline and this is the summer dress I'm always trying to find.  Something that a women never wants in a dress is for her boobs to look droopy and in this dress that is the first thing I thought of.

2. Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel- This chick is awesome, she is one of the gems of Twitter and gorgeous but I don't get this.  I hate everything, I hate the one shoulder illusion, I hate the patterned cutout in the middle, I hate the slit.  I hate the hair a lot.  I love her but I hate this, that is all.

3. Kerry Washington in Jason Wu- This hurts me more than it hurts you.  I know she's pregnant, I know it was raining cats and dogs but this sucked.  I don't mind the color but why are we putting Kerry Washington in a bed sheet and sending her to the Oscars?   This woman is stunning and she's wearing this? Just say no.

Last night's show was too long, there was just too many montages, too many awards no one cares about and it didn't end until midnight.  I loved Ellen but as usual now I miss Tina and Amy at every awards show.  There was no huge moment for me, I'm happy about who won even though I would've loved another Jennifer Lawrence acceptance speech to YouTube when I'm bored.

Jared Leto is quickly taking the place in my heart from Johnny Depp, even though it's not completely owned yet, there are moments of glory that he is just taking over, and he's so pretty.

Are we pretending that John Travolta is normal still? I mean really dude? Between him and that really drunk lady Matthew McConaughey was holding up, there were the train wrecks of the night.  And I loveeeee that Matthew dropped the "alright, alright, alright" since I've been in love with him since Dazed and Confused.
